An Intern Kind of Summer

With the encouragement that God has a plan for their lives and with big hopes for an exciting summer, 26 interns from five organizations participated in the seventh annual Rees-Jones Youth Internship Program in June and July. Partners involved were Behind Every Door, Casa del Lago, Dallas Leadership Foundation, For the Nations Refugee Outreach, and Youth Believing in Change. As The Rees-Jones Foundation staff led four convenings through the summer, interns had the opportunity to hear from dynamic speakers from South Dallas Driving Academy, ScholarShot, Veritex Bank, amongst others and also take part in service projects at OurCalling and Austin Street Center as they focused on the importance of community and the parts we have all been called to play. Interns also worked on-site with their respective organizations to gain hands-on experiences in nonprofit work.

A highlight for the summer included Foundation staff having the chance to continue the tradition of taking interns out to lunch to encourage, listen, and dream with them in ways these students could achieve their goals.

If you walked around the lunch table long enough, you even heard interns educating staff on current music and slang of the
current day, bringing laughter all around. This summer session was concluded at the Park City Club as interns and staff . The Rees-Jones Foundation has appreciated the opportunity to get directly involved with the next generation and if these interns are any indication, the future is bright!
