Foundation Update

April 2012

Welcome to The Rees-Jones Foundation’s new website!

The launch of this website coincides with the introduction of an updated vision and mission statement for the Foundation. The Rees-Jones Foundation has been making grants in the North Texas community for over five years now. We consider ourselves blessed to have been so warmly welcomed into the philanthropic community by our foundation peers and to have been presented with many rewarding funding opportunities – both large and small.

Five years of grant making has sharpened our philanthropic focus. We remain motivated by our faith and by a desire to help others in need, but several distinct themes have also surfaced. Among them are the protection of children from abuse or neglect and the provision of assistance to children and youth who struggle with issues of mental illness or mental or physical disabilities. Another is the support of youth organizations that provide effective after-school or summer programing where education is reinforced and the importance of moral character and personal responsibility are emphasized. We remain excited about programs that provide camping and outdoor experiences for children and youth who would otherwise not have these opportunities for enjoyment and personal growth.

In addition to these, we desire to participate in the overall improvement of our community, so we will continue to support programs that improve the life circumstances of our neighbors, including the welfare of companion animals that make our lives richer.

Hopefully, you will recognize this sharpened focus in our new vision and mission statement as well as in our updated areas of giving. As you peruse our website, you will find that we remain a broad-based funder, but in the coming years, we will be looking for ways to go deeper with our partners in areas of particular concern so that together we can make a substantial positive impact.

We will continue to lead in adapting technology to the application and grant process. We already take applications exclusively through an online application. Over the course of this year, those of you receiving grants will also be on the leading edge of our transition to online grant reporting. One of the central goals of this new website is to make both of those processes easier. Let us know how we are doing. Our aim is for a grant making process that is mutually beneficial.

The other significant new feature of this website is an enhanced news section. We are going to be making a more concerted effort to highlight some of the good work being done in our community. As you read through articles, press releases, and view pictures, we want you to be encouraged by hardships being overcome, individuals and neighborhoods being helped, and lives being put on a course toward wholeness and fulfillment.

Again, welcome to our new website! We look forward to this website being the beginning of many great grants to come, and we hope you will feel the same way.

T. Hardie, President of The Rees-Jones Foundation
